Cotati, California

Photos and comments will be posted here soon!

1986
(Did you know that...?)
The Detroit Tigers acquired Milt Cuyler, their #2 pick; in April, Reactor #4 at Chernobyl blew; in January, the Space Shuttle "Challenger" exploded in air, killing the 7 astronauts aboard; Paul Newman won an Oscar in "Color of Money" and "Platoon" got the Oscar for best movie; 24 million homes in America had one cat or more (approx. 50 million cats); Corazon Aquino was sworn into office in the Philippines; the Mets won the World Series; the Chicago Bears won the Super Bowl (1985 season); the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted its first members; John Lee Hooker and Robert Cray dominated the WC Handy Awards; Dionne Warwick's "That's What Friends Are For" was the #1 pop song; Whitney Houston was hugely popular although no one would publicly admit to liking any of her songs; Jack Nicklaus, at 46, won the Masters; it was suddenly discovered that children who live near airports suffer from hypertension more than children who live in quieter neighborhoods; Danny Heep became the first designated hitter (DH) in the World Series to have the initials "D.H."; Cary Grant died; and

the Detroit Disciples were born.

The original Disciples were Don Bassey on bass, PaulDD2.jpg (47527 bytes) drums and Ian McMurray on guitar.   After working out all the kinks, the band started playing gigs in '87. (is that a good photo of old time rock and rollers or what? click)

Then in 1989 they brought in Colin Campbell on keyboards.  Colin had been with Paul and Ian previously in Robyn Banks.

BasseyBobby_C-3.jpg (67988 bytes)Don Bassey left the band in 1990, to be replaced by bassist, Tommy Miller, of current Alameda Allstars fame (click on the photo of Bobby C., Don B., and Tommy Miller)

Don came back in '93 for a short while anddisciples.jpg (26322 bytes) Steve Hays stepped in after that. (click on the photo of Paul, Ian, Steve Hays and Colin)  Carl Bowers was playing bass at the Tradewinds with the Detroit Disciples the night they did their farewell show - and what a night THAT was.

On Cinco de Mayo at the Tradewinds in Cotati, the performers will include:
